Woburn, Mass., October 20, 2016 — Arborjet announced the recipients of its 2016 “Taking Root” College Scholarships. Each of the 10 graduating high school seniors selected has won a $1,000 scholarship to pursue full-time studies in Forestry, Plant Sciences, Horticulture, Entomology, Environmental Science or a related major at an accredited two-year or four-year college.
Arborjet is committed to giving promising high school seniors the financial support they need to pursue careers in the growing arboriculture industry. Arborjet’s “Taking Root” College Scholarship Program is currently in its third year and has collectively awarded $30,000 in educational grants.
“After seeing the record number of applications come in for our scholarships this year, it’s clear that there is a bright future for our industry,” says Russ Davis, President and COO of Arborjet. “We are delighted to welcome these talented young people to the tree and plant health care industry and we are confident that we’ll see them grow successfully in their careers.”
The 2016 Arborjet “Taking Root” Scholarship winners are:
- Maureen Cottrell of Haverill, Mass.
Ms. Cottrell attends the University of Massachusetts Amherst in Amherst, Massachusetts and is majoring in Natural Resources.
- Tess Reeves of Orange, Va.
Ms. Reeves attends Virginia Tech in Blacksburg, Virginia and is majoring in Landscape Architecture and Horticulture.
- Charles Smith of Holt, Mich.
Mr. Smith attends Michigan State University in East Lansing, Michigan and is majoring in Environmental Science.
- Jessica Sourbeer of Pittsburgh, Penn.
Ms. Sourbeer attends Penn State University: State College in State College, Pennsylvania and is majoring in Forestry.
- Elise Tomaszewski of Saint Clair Shores, Mich.
Ms. Tomaszewski attends Michigan State University in East Lansing, Michigan and is majoring in Horticulture.
- Lauren Trapani of East Greenwich, R.I.
Ms. Trapani attends Ohio State University: Columbus Campus in Columbus, Ohio and is majoring in Environmental Economics.
- Conor Smith of North Granby, Conn.
Mr. Smith attends University of New Hampshire in Durham, New Hampshire and is majoring in Forest Technology.
- Brenna Christensen of Harwinton, Conn.
Ms. Christensen attends University of Vermont in Burlington, Vermont and is majoring in Environmental Science.
- Lucy Lee of Forest Hills, N.Y.
Ms. Lee attends Cornell University in Ithaca, New York and is majoring in Plant Sciences.
- Kellee Edington of Terre Haute, Ind.
Ms. Edington attends Purdue University in West Lafayette, Indiana and is majoring in Forestry.
The honorees are dedicated students who have demonstrated achievement in their communities and schools, and who plan to bring their skills and talents to the arboriculture industry.
