Add libraries to the list of distribution points for locally grown produce. That’s right, libraries.

Patrons of the Grand Rapids (Mich.) Public Library will have the chance to buy fruits and vegetables beginning next month when the YMCA Veggie Van begins making weekly stops at the library. The van will
set up produce inside the library during the cold winter months and will be available on the library lawn when the weather turns warmer.

The YMCA of Greater Grand Rapids operates the Veggie Van to bring fruits and vegetables to urban neighborhoods where access to fresh produce is limited. It runs year round and makes daily stops throughout Grand Rapids. The van accepts SNAP, WIC and Senior Farmers’ Market Nutrition Program benefits.

The mobile farmers market is one of two new healthy initiatives at the library in partnership with the YMCA.
