Upselling your offering by providing "premium" crops in addition to "value" crops is becoming more and more important for smaller growers to differentiate themselves from their larger competitors, according to Horticultural Consultant Leslie F. Halleck.
Yet, in order for premium crops to be worth your while, you'll need to keep in mind these tips:
- Input vs. output - how premium crops could affect your operational costs.
- Growing trends - staying on top of consumer preferences (i.e. water-wise, specialty varieties).
- Price prejudice - charging a premium price for your premium selection.
- Messaging - marketing those crops effectively.
