Princess Bride hydrangea is a hybrid with an interesting form of lacecap flowers that bloom up and down each stem (pictured). Hardy in Zones 7b-10, it blooms from spring through fall.
Need to beef up your shrub selections? PDSI is releasing three new lonicera, which are excellent boxwood alternatives. The Garden Clouds series has three new selections: Copper Glow (glossy, small leaves with copper orange new growth); Green Breeze (a vibrant green); and Purple Storm (dark green foliage with purple new growth). All three are hardy in Zones 6-9 and grow 2-3 feet tall and wide.
Holly Red Sky offers the columnar habit but with red new growth. Grows to 8 feet tall and works in light shade to full sun. Hardy in Zones 6-9.
CAST 2022: Ball Ingenuity
Home décor includes indoor flowering plants, designed to keep consumers buying plants all year.
It’s no secret that we gained millions of new gardeners the last two years. To keep those consumers captivated, Ball Ingenuity is appealing to the décor side of plant parenting and telling buyers to “renovate your indoor space with plants.” This messaging will feature flowering plants such as hydrangeas, cyclamen and celosia.
The new hydrangea Francy series features double-petaled, star-shaped flowers with multiple flower heads on a compact, sturdy plant. Colors include Purple and Pink. The new Ice Boy hydrangea is a clean, bright white with classic-shaped flowers. Both new hydrangea series are supplied as dormant 4-inch pots with four or more canes and 6-inch pots with 6+ canes. Crop time is 11-12 weeks.
Cyclamen make excellent indoor plants and Ball Ingenuity has partnered with Morel to offer several sizes and varieties. One of the latest introductions is the Crispino Mix, with a nifty ruffled flower.

The first interspecific impatiens from seed and a spreading begonia caught attendees' eyes.
The first spreading begonia, Hula F1 Spreading Begonia will fill landscape space well. Since plants are so voluminous, gardeners can use fewer plants to fill landscapes and containers. Its trailing habit is perfect for baskets and containers. The series is daylength neutral and is the earliest interspecific begonia to flower.
Solarscape and Solarscape XL are is the first interspecific impatiens from seed and excels in full sun to part shade. It’s easy to schedule since if offers growers an input that is available year-round. It provides high-impact color in sunny spaces in the ground and in containers. Solarscape will be available in Magenta Bliss, Neon Purple, Orange Burst and White Shimmer next year, and Solarscape XL will be available in Salmon Glow.

A new addition to the Lifestyle collection, this indoor/outdoor plant is great as a houseplant or on patios. The first of its kind, the striking leaf pattern draws attention at retail. Citizen Cane is day neutral flowering. It lasts up to four weeks with almost no care needed. It’s available in nodes and transplants from liners in seven weeks. It will be available in tissue culture soon.
