North Carolina State announces dates, itineraries for 2019 poinsettia open houses

The trials will take place at the university and two privately owned businesses.

Did you know that North Carolina is ranked No. 2 in poinsettia production? Then it should come as no surprise that there are a number of poinsettia open houses being hosted in North Carolina. Below lists details of all three as put on by North Carolina State University. All three events are free and no registration is required.  

Dec. 5 & 8

Industry Day No. 1
Thursday, December 5: 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. (with industry suppliers present)  
Lunch provided by Fine Americas
 
Industry Day No. 2
Sunday, Dec. 8: 1 p.m. to 5 p.m.
 

Growers are welcome to visit either day. The trials feature 130 cultivars and color combinations. In addition, there is a PGR trial on 4.5 inch pots. The event is co-sponsored by the NC Commercial Flower Growers Association.

The retail trial with 100 cultivars will be on display at Homewood Nursery & Garden Center's Poinsettia Open House, located at 10809 Honeycutt Rd. in Raleigh. Call for details: 919-847-0117. It is runs from 8:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Dec. 5.

Also mark your calendars for Mitchell's Nursery & Greenhouse's Poinsettia Open House at 1088 W. Dalton Rd. in King, North Carolina. It is scheduled for Sunday, Dec. 8 from 12:00 to 4:00. We are one of two commercial greenhouses in the state to hold poinsettia trials. We are growing over 10,000 in 93 different varieties this year. The poinsettias will be on display about one week before and one week after. For more information: 336-983-4107
