President Barack Obama signed a new Farm Bill into law on Feb. 7. The signing took place in Lansing, Mich. 
The Farm Bill passed the Senate on Feb. 4 and the House on Jan. 29. The legislation's long road to the president's desk included a two-year standstill in Congress. The bill authorizes $1 trillion in spending on subsidies and other agriculture programs. It also cuts food stamps by about one percent and ends a direct subsidy payment to farmers.
Greenhouse Management Magazine spoke with AmericanHort's Craig Regelbrugge, senior vice president of industry advocacy and research, on Jan. 30 to discuss what the impact of the legislation could mean for the horticulture and floriculture industries.
