Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack visited Metrolina Greenhouses in Huntersville, N.C. on Monday, June 25. Vilsack toured the facilities of the family-owned plant services company, which is the largest single-site heated greenhouse in the U.S. Included in the tour was the water recycling system, automated transplanter, recycling center and wood boiler system, which was developed with assistance from USDA Rural Development through the Rural Energy for America program.
After the tour, Vilsack held a press availability to highlight the work of companies like Metrolina to build a thriving, bio-based economy that will create more jobs here at home, as well as USDA’s support for businesses and communities to further utilize sustainable energy sources.
