Rancho Tissue Technologies, a tissue culture plant producer in Rancho Santa Fe, Calif., has received VeriFlora’s Sustainably Grown Certification for its Stage III microcuttings and Stage IV liners. The company’s sustainability efforts encompass every aspect of the business including: selecting plants that require less water and fewer chemicals; recycling and reusing all lab vessels in which plants are produced; installation of new growth chamber lighting to reduce energy usage and costs by at least 25% and weekly employee health, safety and quality training meetings.
Olson’s Greenhouse in Salem and Santaquin, Utah, has also received the Sustainably Grown Certification. The certification signifies that the company practices sustainable and eco-friendly methods of production, shipping and labor management. Olson’s operates over 1 million sq. ft. of greenhouses and 500,000 sq. ft. of outdoor production area.
Growers who receive VeriFlora certification must meet or exceed environmental protection requirements covering issues in the areas of pest management, media fertility, production yields, energy efficiency, carbon footprint, waste management, water conservation and ecosystem care.
