Plants in Design - Miami
At Plants in Design, Sales Manager Manny Rodriguez showed us around his 35-acre nursery that specializes in bromeliads. This includes three types of aechmeas, as well as gozmanias and neoregelia. The company grows more than 2 million bromeliads on a regular basis and uses reverse osmosis to maintain water quality, which is key to bromeliad growth. Plants in Design cleans 120,000 gallons/day for its bromeliads.
Rodriguez says that the facility works hard to emulate the airflow as it is in the wild; since bromeliads grow in trees, the nursery uses fans to emulate that air flow. The bromeliad growth cycle is 18 months start to finish – thus the ones we saw on the Road Show tour will not be available until 2014. Here are a few of the most interesting plants we saw:
