A.D.R. Bulbs in Chester, N.Y., is celebrating 100 years as a grower and exporter of Holland flower bulbs. The company was established in 1910 by Carolus Ruigrok as C.J. Ruigrok & Zonen. In 1946, sales markets in the United States were opened, followed three years later by trade in Canada.
In 1978, Ruigrok Bulbs purchased DeGroot Bulb Company and George Alkemade Inc. These acquisitions launched A.D.R. Bulbs. The newly merged companies moved to larger facilities in Bloomingburg, N.Y. and added a retail line to its bulk offerings.
A.D.R. Bulbs ships to all states in the continental U.S. and maintains a flower bulb nursery in Holland which continues to grow. Currently, the company is adding a new warehouse to its existing complex which will increase storage capacity to 200 million bulbs to be shipped to garden centers, landscapers and greenhouses all across the U.S., Canada and Europe.
