Demand for agricultural packaging is forecast to increase 1.8% per year through 2013 to over $1.7 billion, according to a new report "Lawn, Garden & Agricultural Packaging" by the Freedonia Group. Gains will occur in packaging that provides a means of differentiating products that are primarily commodity in nature.
Consumer preference for convenient, user-friendly packaging is expected to stimulate sales of reclosable pouches and other value-added products. Pouches, including stand-up types, will post the fastest gains due to visual appeal, re-sealing and barrier properties.
Bags and sacks will continue to be in strong demand with plastic container needs increasing 1.9 percent annually. Bulk packaging will increase less than one percent per year due to falling shipment volumes of fertilizer and meager advances in pesticide volumes. Agriculture will remain the largest market for lawn, garden and ag packaging accounting for 49% of demand in 2013.
The 224-page report is available for $4,600 from the Freedonia Group.
