Agribio Group, a Dutch flower and plant breeder, has acquired a stake in Genetwister Technologies, a bio-technology company based in Wageningen, the Netherlands. Agribio has also appointed Roger Peeters as managing director of research and development.
Agribio plans to expand its global position via research into new varieties and the modernization of its technology. This will take place by means of marker assisted breeding and a clear focus on the company’s core activities of flower and plant breeding.
Genetwister Technologies uses genomics techniques to identify and isolate bio-markers (genes) from plants and plant products. Marker technology has been used for 20 years in relation to agriculture and vegetable crops but has not yet been employed within flower and plant breeding.
