Nominations are now being accepted for the America in Bloom John R. Holmes III Community Champion Award. The award recognizes an individual who exemplifies community leadership through actions that reflect the mission of the organization. The recipient, who must be from a city that has participated or is currently participating in the AIB program, has demonstrated a vision and selfless commitment to moving the community forward.
AIB created the award in 2009 in memory of John R. Holmes III, the late CEO of OFA, who died unexpectedly in Feb. 2009. Holmes, who was an AIB board member and officer since the program’s inception, was an advocate for city beautification and believed in the power of plants to change lives.
Last year's winner of the 1st annual award was Rick Webb of Logan, Ohio. Rick headed up the community beautification effort in Logan and has led the effort ever since.
This year’s award will be presented during the AIB Educational Symposium and Awards Program, Sept. 30-Oct. 2 in St. Louis, Mo. Nominations will be accepted until July 31.
