AmericanHort expands greenhouse training with new Section Grower Certification

AmericanHort has announced the launch of the Greenhouse Section Grower Certification, the latest addition to its certification program.

Now available online, this certification is designed for technicians looking to advance, new growers building essential skills and greenhouse employees seeking to improve performance and workflow.

The Greenhouse Section Grower Certification is self-paced, provides in-depth training in greenhouse production practices and is structured into three modules: Substrate, Nutrition and Growth Management; Pest, Disease and Water Quality Management; and Comprehensive Greenhouse Operations.

By providing structured, accessible education, this certification helps greenhouse owners train their employees while improving productivity and decision-making.

“The Section Grower Certification teaches employees the 'why' behind greenhouse decisions. By understanding how daily tasks impact the bottom line, growers can develop critical thinking skills to help them work smarter, leading to fewer mistakes, better problem-solving and long-term success,” said AmericanHort President and CEO Ken Fisher.

Taught by leading industry experts, the certification includes video demonstrations, practical applications and assessments to reinforce learning. Upon completion of each module, participants can demonstrate what they have learned under the guidance of their supervisors.

“A manager recently shared that after completing the certification, their grower’s assistant became more confident in problem-solving production issues, prioritizing tasks and identifying concerns they might have previously overlooked,” said Meagan Nace, senior manager of education program development at AmericanHort. “It is rewarding to see how this program equips growers with the skills they need to succeed.”

To earn certification, enrollees must complete 15 courses across three modules and pass a final exam. Certification is valid for two years and can be renewed through continuing education credits earned by attending qualifying AmericanHort educational programs.

The Section Grower Certification is the second level in a series of specialized online certifications developed by AmericanHort. It follows the launch of the Greenhouse Technician Certification in 2023.
