The New Look celosia from Benary variety was named a 2019 Texas Superstar plant by AgriLife Research, Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service and Texas Tech University horticulturalists after years of field trials around the state.
New Look celosia was a hit among visitors at the annual East Texas Horticultural Field Day in Overton, as indicated by the flags placed by attendees, according to a press release.
“This variety has been reliably tough in high temperatures,” Dr. Brent Pemberton from Texas A&M said. “It can take whatever the Texas summer throws at it. We have tested a lot of celosia over the years and this one continues to be the best. It’s been around a long time, but sometimes you just have a plant in the garden year after year and might take it for granted. Then it catches your attention and you’re like, ‘dang, that is a good plant’."
