This week's snowstorms have taken a major toll on Western New York's agricultural industry.
Heavy snow caused several greenhouses to collapse at Amos Zittel & Sons Inc., in Eden, New York.
"It's catastrophic," said Bill Zittel, who has spent his life working on the local farm.
"It's hard to believe if you don't see it for yourself," said Terry Zittel, describing the damage this morning.
In a typical winter, Zittel's grows about 250 different types of flowers and vegetables in three acres of greenhouses.
One by one, greenhouses began to cave in on the property. Some contained tractors and other equipment. Most contained young plants that Zittel's distributes across the United States. In all, the Zittel family estimates that 2.5 acres of greenhouses have been destroyed. Damage is estimated at several million dollars.
