The Cathedral Church of St. Paul, an Episcopal church in Burlington, Vt., has installed a 1,000 sq. ft. green roof, reports the Burlington Free Press. The seven species of sedum plants used in the roof, which is a patented LiveRoof garden, were grown by Prides Corner Farms. The paper reports that a similar sedum planting was installed in 15,000 sq. ft. of roof of Heritage Aviation at Burlington International Airport.
The roof is part of the church’s Earth Care Ministry, which seeks to reduce the congregation’s individual and collective environmental footprint. The green roof is expected to help reduce storm water runoff into nearby Lake Champlain.
