Buying yourself flowers is one of 24 ways readers of Fitness magazine can boost their energy and their mood. “Ready, Set, Recharge! 24 Ways to Boost Your Energy and Your Mood” appears in the magazine’s July-August issue. The No. 9 way is Buy Yourself Flowers. The magazine tells readers “A bouquet can put you in a good mood—and even give you an all-day energy boost—regardless of where it comes from”. The article cites a behavioral research study (Home Ecology of Flowers Study) conducted by psychologist Nancy Etcoff of Massachusetts General Hospital and Harvard Medical School, that showed people feel more compassionate toward others, have less worry and anxiety and feel less depressed when fresh cut flowers are present in the home.
