The front lawn of the Chicago Botanic Garden's new Regenstein Learning Campus looks like a Dr. Seuss landscape come to life, or maybe one plucked out of "Teletubbies."
The area is called Rolling Hills on the official map. The hills, though, are more like ski moguls writ large. Bumping Hills, maybe.
The idea is to give the thousands of children who use the learning campus a tactile, dramatic and intriguing outdoor play space.
"It's very Dr. Seuss," agreed Jean Franczyk, the garden's new president, as she led a tour of the new space in advance of the official Sept. 10 opening.
