Color Orchids, an indoor plant company specializing in orchids, has acquired Floricultura Pacific, a Salinas-based grower focused on pre-finished orchids for the North American market.
Floricultura Pacific was previously owned by Floricultura Netherlands, one of the largest and oldest Dutch orchid breeders in the world, with operations in China, India, the Netherlands, Poland and Brazil.
This acquisition will make Color Orchids, founded in 2011, the largest orchid supplier in the United States, with a total of 25 acres of orchid propagation across three locations in the country.
“Color Orchids has been working very closely with Floricultura Pacific for years. This move makes us a completely vertically integrated company with significantly more capacity to expand our assortment and offerings. The only thing that will change for our customers will be increased quality, service and opportunities,” said Ben Van Wingerden, owner and CEO of Color Orchids, who will remain in his position as CEO of Color Orchids.
The management team at Floricultura Pacific will also remain in place.
