The Connecticut greenhouse industry is making sweeping changes in the wake of millions of dollars of snow damage caused by winter storms in 2013.
According to the Hartford Courant, the state's Green Industries Council estimates that the damage cost the industry between $12 and $20 million. This year, many growers took to reinforcing their greenhouses using such rudimentary tools as two-by-fours. Some growers purchased new greenhouses with steel beams supporting the roofs. Others tried to re-design their layout or clear the snow more quickly.
