According to the Times of San Diego, Cuyamaca College broke ground on Aug. 22 for its new ornamental horticulture complex, which will include classrooms, laboratories and greenhouses.
The project will cost $16.7 million and is funded through a 2012 Proposition V Bond passed by voters in the area. The project will include the renovation of educational facilities, along with brand new greenhouses to be used by horticulture students.
The project includes gutting and renovating one of the buildings, Building M, to accommodate a design lab, a wet lab and lab prep, and a classroom. Two new greenhouses will replace an older, smaller one that has poor sun exposure.
Facility renovation will allow for major upgrades to the horticulture program, according to program coordinator Leah Rottke.
