Wilsonville, Oregon - The 2016 Farwest Show, August 25-27, in Portland, Ore., welcomes Dan Hinkley of Heronswood Nursery as a guest speaker to its educational program this year.
Hinkley’s session, ‘Plants with Promise,’ will offer perspectives on ways consumers can be more adventurous in their gardening without sacrificing durability, value, and adaptability of chosen plants. Nursery growers and landscapers will find special interest in Hinkley’s examples from his ever-increasing inventory that illustrate trees, shrubs, vines, and perennials deserving greater use in the landscape.
Hinkley, noted plantsman, consultant, and director of Heronswood Nursery, has gardened in the
Pacific Northwest for more than 30 years and has studied plants in the wilds of the northern and southern hemispheres. He and partner, Robert L. Jones, founded Heronswood in 1987 with a mission to study and cultivate rare and unusual plants. Hinkley has collected most of Heronswood’s plant varieties on his twice or thrice-yearly trips abroad. The original 15-acre garden at Heronswood remains intact, and under Hinkley’s direction is currently undergoing renovation. Hinkley continues to search for plants in the wild across the globe. In 2016, he will spend the month of September in the remote mountainous regions of NE India.
Sponsored by Monrovia, Hinkley’s talk will be given Thursday, August 25, 10-11 a.m., in Room B113-114. For complete information on Hinkley’s session and to register, visit www.FarwestShow.com.
