Emergent honors winners revealed

Lindsey Kerr, garden manager and curator at Lord & Schryver Conservancy in Salem, Ore. and Caleb Melchoir, a landscape designer at P. Allen Smith & Associates in Little Rock, Ark. have been named the first recipients of the Emergent Honors.

‘Emergent Honors’ are a unique award celebrating green industry professionals under 35 years of age.  Candidates are selected through a Facebook algorithm with regard to interaction within the Emergent Facebook group. This is the first horticulture award that uses technology as its basis, which is fitting considering this is a virtual society representing the way of the future. Emergent Honors features two young professionals who are outstanding in their interest, communications and interaction within the Facebook group. 

With more than 3,000 members, Emergent is a unique collection of horticulture professionals of all ages and experience levels. Established in 2012 with the simple goal of helping connect horticulture professionals to the essential networks within the green industry,   Emergent has become a resource for job listings, industry news and discussions relating to how to improve the overall horticulture experience for both consumers and professionals. 

Bailey Nurseries, Cavano’s Perennials and Garden Media Group are sponsoring the honors. The two recipients will receive an all-expense paid trip to AmericanHort events in July 2017 including Career Up and Cultivate '17. The Emergent Honors also awards a $250 cash prize.
