GRAND HAVEN, MI — A fire at Spring Meadow Nursery completely destroyed the Michigan grower’s main office building, doing an estimated $1 million in damage. No one was hurt in the fire, which broke out early Sunday morning.
Firefighters from six different townships worked to subdue the blaze. The first crews appeared on the scene at 3 a.m. According to local reports from the Grand Haven Tribune, the roof of the office building had already collapsed when the Robinson Township fire chief arrived. The firefighters continued until about 8 a.m. and ultimately succeeded in protecting nearby greenhouses containing several million dollars worth of inventory and structures.
According to a Monday morning press release, nursery offices are being relocated on the property and will be fully operational with phone and email service by mid-week. No plants or growing space were lost in the fire. Customer orders are unaffected and completely secure for the coming season.
In a Facebook post Sunday morning, the nursery expressed its thanks that no one was injured in the fire and that damage to its growing structures was minimal.
“We can replace things, we can replace walls, but we can't replace our team of employees,” the post stated. “Thank you all so much for your concern and support.”
Spring Meadow Nursery staff will continue to attend trade shows without interruption, including MGIX, CAST, Farwest, Cultivate, The Western, and several others throughout the year. Plans are already in process for a new and larger office to accommodate the continuously growing staff necessary to serve a growing customer base.
The nursery intends to have email and phone systems restored within the next few days. In the interim, Spring Meadow staff have asked customers to use Facebook's direct messaging system to contact them or email Mark Osgerby at mark.springmeadownursery@gmail.com
