Preventing pythium in poinsettias

FMC Professional Solutions suggests growers apply a soil drench when poinsettias begin to set color

As greenhouse growers prepare their poinsettias for the upcoming holiday season, they may find problems with pythium, which occurs when poinsettias begin to set color. FMC Professional Solutions suggests that growers apply a soil drench when poinsettias begin to color in prevention of the disease. The company suggests its fungicide Segway, which protects plants from pythium, phtyopthora and downy mildew. Segway’s active ingredient, Cyazofamid, inhibits all stages of the fungal life cycle, so it not only acts as a preventive measure, but also works to reverse fungal diseases after symptoms appear. FMC says the fungicide should be applied at the rate of 3 ounces per 100 gallons of water, and to use it first in rotation for immediate control and to help maintain fungal protection all season long.
