Georgia trial gardens go green in 2009

The University of Georgia’s ornamental trials will be “completely sustainable by 2009.” To reach its sustainability goal, the university pledges to: reduce water waste; apply organic fertilizer and beneficial soil microorganisms; use beneficial insects, organic pesticides and banker plants; manually remove weeds or use organic herbicides; and reduce nonrenewable resources such as plastic pots. Erica Mehan will act as the gardens’ sustainability coordinator.
