Chances are if you grow gloxinia, you know of the Orchestra and Symphony series. Both are now available from Yoder Brothers.
The Orchestra series can flower for six weeks or more. It does best in smaller, more compact (4 1/2- to 6-inch) pots. There is a wide range of colors and several novel plant forms.
The Symphony series thrives in larger containers (6- to 6 1/2-inch) and has a lot of flower power. Each plant produces more than 100 buds with 12-15 flowers open at one time.
Yoder recommends transplanting plugs within a day or two of receipt. Growth can be stunted if plugs are left too long in their trays.
Gloxinias should be planted deep -- only 1/4-1/2 inch of the growing tip and two leaf pairs should be visible. Greenhouse temperatures should range from 60°-65° at night and 75°-85° during the day. If flowers appear too early, lower the temperature to 52°-55° to slow development.
Leaves and flowers will brown at temperatures below 50°.
