Green roof market grows 30 percent in 2007

Green Roofs for Healthy Cities’ Third Annual Green Roof Market Industry Survey revealed the green-roof market increased by 30 percent last year, giving growers more opportunity for increased sales of green-roof plants.

The survey listed the top 10 cities for most green roofs installed: Chicago, Baltimore, Wilmington, Del., Washington, D.C., Philadelphia, Brooklyn, N.Y., Virginia Beach, Va., Royersford, Pa., Amery, Wis., and Germantown, Md.

Chicago remains the No. 1 city for green roofs with more than half a million new square feet of green roofs installed in 2007.

“Significant green-roof implementation can save tens of millions of dollars from reduced energy, and greatly improve regional storm water management and air quality,” said Steven W. Peck, founder and president of Green Roofs for Healthy Cities.
