Dig. Drop. Done. announces that the North American Flower Bulb Wholesalers Association (NAFWA) is accepting applications for the Karl Schroff Memorial Scholarship.
The $3,000 scholarship(s) is for the 2012-2013 academic year and will be awarded by July 31, 2012. Any college student studying flower bulbs or horticulture is invited to apply by July 1.
The NAFWA scholarship is named after Karl Schroff, a customs broker. For more than 50 years, Schroff helped numerous flower bulb companies get their products into the United States. Schroff died at the age of 81 in 2003.
“NAFWA is proud to offer this scholarship to honor the legacy of Karl Schroff, an incredible person who was always looking out for others and cared deeply about the success and longevity of the flower bulb industry,” says Jack DeVroomen, NAFWA board member and owner of a Dig.Drop.Done Foundation Member company.
Many people involved in the bulb trade have fond memories of Schroff. His helpfulness, personality and business sense won the heart of all who met him. Schroff was knowledgeable about the flower bulb business and made frequent trips to Holland to visit customers and educate them about the import process. The company he built -- Karl Schroff and Associates -- was later acquired by Western Overseas Inc. Western Overseas and the Schroff family have donated the funds for the Karl Schroff Scholarship.
