The American Heart Association (AHA) recognized Syngenta and the Minnetonka, Minn. regional headquarters as one of its Fit-Friendly Companies for 2011. Syngenta employs more than 4,400 people across the United States, with more than 350 employees and contractors at the Minnetonka location.
The Fit-Friendly program aims to help the American workforce get healthy. It encourages companies to make their employees’ health and wellness a priority. Today, American employers are losing an estimated $225.8 billion a year because of health care expenses and losses in productivity, and the numbers are on the rise.
At the regional headquarters in Minnetonka, Syngenta employees have access to a comprehensive health services program that includes a free fitness center; a renovated health clinic with state-of-the-art equipment and qualified staff who conduct free physical exams, health screenings and lab tests; clinic workers who counsel employees on health matters such as work-life balance, stress, weight management, nutrition and exercise; and an incentive-based wellness program called “Reaping Rewards,” which lets employees earn cash for following a variety of healthy behaviors.
In addition to recognition as a Fit-Friendly employer, Syngenta receives materials to help promote wellness programs. Minnetonka employees now have access to Fit-Friendly program resources, including the AHA Walking Program and online activity tracker.
