The Agriculture Coalition for Immigration Reform, including Society of American Florists, is helping to organize “fly-ins” so that members of Congress can hear from employers about the impact the Legal Workforce Act will have, unless it can be modified to address agriculture’s needs. The act requires that all employers use E-Verify to determine if a new hire (and in some cases, current hires) are eligible to work. SAF said the legislation does not include an adequate “fix” for agricultural employers to provide them with access to a stable, legal workforce.
A fly-in is scheduled for July 13. SAF will help make appointments, participate in briefings, and help participants with the visits.
