Results of a study released by home furnishings retailer IKEA regarding the kitchens of the future will merge the garden and kitchen enabling consumers to grow plants indoors and out. A survey conducted earlier this year in the United Kingdom and Ireland asked consumers what their dream kitchen would look like in 30 years. Over 2,500 respondents indicated that they desired a change to more conscientious rather than conspicuous consumption. The study concluded that: Water and land scarcity, climate change and urbanization will make excessive lifestyles extinct not only out of necessity, but a collective outlook on living within means.
One of the three themes that emerged from the study was the Nature-Based Kitchen, which evolves from the grow-your-own movement and focuses on the production of organic, non-processed, natural foods.
