Longwood Gardens in Kennett Square, Pa., will unveil the largest indoor green wall in North America on Oct. 9. The wall will be part of Longwood Gardens’ new East Conservatory Plaza.
The vertical wall, which will feature a panel wall system from GSky Plant Systems, will have a surface area of 3,590 sq. ft. and feature over 47,000 plants. More than 25 different plant species, the majority of which will be fern varieties, will be a part of the wall.
The plants are being grown by Michaels Nursery in Boynton Beach, Fla., and installed by Ambius. Michaels also worked with Ambius in 2009 to provide plants for the Central Park design of Royal Caribbean’s new Oasis of the Seas cruise ship.
Currently the largest green wall in North America is the 2,380 sq. ft. outdoor living wall at PNC Bank in Pittsburgh.
