Univ. of Md. Extension personnel report that thrips activity continues to be high in many greenhouses. They said aphid populations are also being reported to be very active. They recommend that growers monitor their crops closely. Thrips have been found in the flowers of New Guinea impatiens, garden impatiens, hibiscus, mandevilla and heliotrope.
Entomologist Suzanne Wainwright-Evans at Buglady Consulting said she has recently been in greenhouses in about 10 states throughout the U.S. and they are all having a shore fly problem. She said she has never seen infestations this bad before all over the U.S.
