Joe Schulte, president and COO of Southwood Landscape & Nursery Co. in Tulsa, Okla., is one of three recipients named as a 2010 Distinguished Alumnus in Agricultural Sciences and Natural Resources by Okla. St. Univ. Schulte operates a full-service garden center and landscape design operation with 50-90 fulltime, part-time and seasonal employees. He earned his Bachelor of Science degree in horticulture and landscape design and Master of Science degree in ornamental horticulture from Okla. St. in 1973 and 1975, respectively.
Schulte’s company has frequently hosted the Tulsa Extension Master Gardeners, provided resources for the development of the Linnaeus Garden in Tulsa and has been active in supporting the university’s horticulture programs including the “Oklahoma Gardening” TV show, Oklahoma Proven, workshops and student internships. Schulte has served as a board member and president of the Okla. Nursery and Landscape Assoc., and also as a member of various committees of American Nursery & Landscape Assoc.
