Winners of the ninth annual Kathy Pufahl Memorial Container Design Competition have been announced. The competition, which is sponsored by the New York State Flower Industries, is held every year at the Cornell Floriculture Field Day. A small fee is collected from the entrants and all proceeds are donated to the Pediatric Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD) research at Mt. Sinai Hospital. More than $10,000 has been donated over the nine years.
This year’s winners are:
Open Division:
1st place - Cayuga Landscaping
2nd place - Mischlers Florist & Greenhouse
3rd place - Peace Tree Farm
16-inch pot:
1st place – Peace Tree Farm
2nd place – Zema’s Nursery
3rd place – Zema’s Nursery.
12-inch basket:
1st place – Adams Greenhouses
2nd place – Mischler’s Florist & Greenhouse
3rd place – Mike Weber Greenhouses.
Home gardener:
1st and 2nd place – Eileen Patterson

The New York State Flower Industries says Kathy Pufahl was a staple on the educational seminar circuit, and it was her vision that changed the way we look at the spring container business. Her influence enhanced the art and beauty of our garden design for patios and porches across America.
