After 90 years of operation by the Wilcox family, Keeline Wilcox Nurseries Inc., in Oxnard, Calif., is up for sale. The family has decided it’s time to retire. The goal of brother and sister Rick and Sarah Wilcox is to pass the nursery’s tradition of excellence on to another grower. The nursery is the largest continental U.S. producer of kentia palm (Howea forsteriana).
Located in Ventura County, the 40+ acre nursery (land and structures), is being offered at $6.5 million. The nursery consists of 88,000 sq. ft. of greenhouses, 150,000 sq. ft. of 20- to 22-ft. tall shade houses and 1.2 million sq. ft. of lath houses. The plant inventory, which includes over 1 million palms with heights ranging from 1-25 ft., is offered at $3 million. The company also produces from start to finish an assortment of other ornamental plants including Aspidistra elatior, Corynocarpus laevigata and Ficus nitida.
