From The Herald and News: For the Keno food bank and Community Greenhouse, it’s simply not enough to provide the needy in the area with food. They’ve taken it one step further and together have empowered those with the need and the drive to grow their own produce.
Starting last May and continuing throughout the growing season, Keno food bank — which operates out of the Saving Grace Lutheran Church every Tuesday between 3 and 4:30 p.m. — clients were given a voucher good for free starter vegetable plants. The number of plants each family received was based on the size and overall need of that family.
The vouchers could then be redeemed at the Keno Community Greenhouse, which supplies a community some 12 miles from the nearest grocery store with fresh produce.
