National Immigration Forum has released a study detailing the impact of Arizona’s immigration law since its passage last April and how other states are looking to enact similar legislation. The immigrant advocacy organization said the “report provides a political context for the Arizona law, explains why such legislation is neither the right approach nor a substitute for federal immigration reform, and attempts to assess the probability of passage of similar legislation in key states.”
Mark Kirkorian, executive director of the Center for Immigration Studies, told USA Today that many state legislators want to see how the Arizona law court case goes, which could eventually end up in the U.S. Supreme Court. Kirkorian think some state legislators may push to pass additional laws to see if the Department of Justice attempts to block enforcement of the laws similar to the suit it filed in the case of the Arizona law.
