Minimum-wage hike. The first increase in the minimum wage in nearly a decade was approved with little fanfare. Minimum wage will grow from $5.15 to $7.25 an hour over the next two years. President Bush plans to sign the bill.
Green buildings. Sens. Frank Lautenberg, D-N.J., and John Warner, R-Va., both introduced similar green-building bills. For the landscape and nursery industries, green-building legislation provides an opportunity to promote greenscapes, but there is a risk that legislation could contain problematic language relating to issues such as plant selection and judicious fertilizer and pesticide use, according to American Nursery & Landscape Association.
