After record rains in Eastern Canada have limited the peat harvest, Jiffy’s supply chain team has worked diligently over the past season to secure Jiffy’s needs for 2012 in the world-wide harvest of peat. Jiffy uses peat from North American and European sources to supply peat products such as pellets, peat pots and Preforma as well as substrates such as Jiffy Mix from Macon, Ga., as well as the TREF lineup of substrate products for Jiffy’s European customers.
“Since Jiffy is not a ‘pure peat’ supplier for growers and our harvested peat is mainly used within the Jiffy International Group of Cos., we have been, and will continue to supply our customer base with reliable, unique and consistent substrates from our facility in Macon, Ga., and European facilities throughout the upcoming season,” said Roelof Drost, Jiffy International’s director of marketing. Jiffy does not anticipate issues supplying peat products in 2012.
Growers in the U.S. have been very receptive to the Jiffy Mix powered by TREF line of blended peat products, including custom mixes with additional components, not just peat. For example, Jiffy’s RHP certified COIR properties added to a mix will, under normal use not shrink, showing fast water uptake and notable air capacity.
