Connecticut Congressman Joe Courtney announced that Logee’s Greenhouses in Danielson, Conn., has been awarded a federal grant of $195,650 and a loan request of $391,310 to initiate energy efficient improvements. The grant was awarded through the USDA’s Rural Development program. The money will be used to build a 4-bay greenhouse with an energy-efficient foundation, heat retention curtains and energy-efficient operating equipment. Logee’s co-owner Laurelynn Martin said the new greenhouse will enable the company to bring all of its production under one roof. The project is expected to save the company overall 75% of its previous year’s energy costs. The USDA funding provided to Logee’s is a part of the $13.04 million in loans and grants for 233 renewable energy projects in 38 states under the Rural Energy for America Program.
