The 8th annual Michigan Garden Plant Tour is a coordinated open house of ornamental young plant producers and Mich. St. Univ. Greenhouse growers, landscapers, garden center operators and nurserymen are invited to visit each of these 7 participating tour sites during the 2-week period, Aug. 1-12.
Attendees should expect to see displays of flowering plant material, including commercial brands of annuals, perennials, and shrubs. The tour offers an opportunity to see plant performance at different locations grown under various conditions, both in the ground beds and in containers.
Tour visitors are also invited to participate in the Mich. St. Univ. Plant Trial Field Day in the Horticulture Gardens on Aug. 9. Presentations will be made on new annuals and perennials. Participants can also view unbiased garden performance of ornamentals and hear directly from many of the breeding companies (Representatives from many of the major breeding companies, including Ball Horticultural Co., Benary, Danziger, Dummen USA, Floranova, Paul Ecke Ranch, Plug Connection, Proven Winners, Sakata Ornamentals and American Takii, will also present highlights of some of their favorite new introductions and proven performers. Horticulture professor and MSU Gardens Director Art Cameron and MSU Trials Manager Katie McCarver will discuss the top-performing plants in this year's trials.
