From Springfield News-Leader: The greenhouse at Bailey Alternative High School hasn’t been in use, but Kelly Watts, along with Kaitlan Martin and Shelby Whitlock, all graphic design majors at Missouri State University, see potential for the empty structure.
“The school has their own greenhouse, and we want to revitalize it to its full potential,” said Watts. “The typical high school student is unaware of the advantages of cultivating and consuming fresh produce, so we created the ‘Sow’ initiative to promote sustainability and engage the students at Bailey in new entrepreneurial, health and educational skills.”
Watts, Martin and Whitlock created the “Sow” initiative for their advanced graphics course, taught by Professor Cedomir Kostovic, in cooperation with Bailey Alternative High School and two members of the Masters Gardeners of Greene County. They were awarded a $10,000 grant for the project.
