Nelumbo 'Mrs. Perry D. Slocum'

Nelumbo ‘Mrs. Perry D. Slocum’ is among the most popular and best-selling lotus in North America. This eye-catching plant honors the wife of noted hybridizer Perry D. Slocum. Perry Slocum died in 2004, leaving behind a huge collection of lotus and water lilies.

‘Mrs. Perry D. Slocum’ is the result of a cross between the native American lotus, N. lutea, and N. ‘Rosea Plena.’ Eight crosses were performed and only two seeds formed. One produced a weak seedling, while the other produced the vigorous plant that soon became a favorite among water gardeners.

‘Mrs. Perry D. Slocum’ has flowers reaching 8-10 inches in diameter. Flowers last five to six days and gradually change color to become mostly yellow with pink tips. It is hardy to USDA Hardiness Zone 4.
