The 2011-2012 edition of the “New England Greenhouse Floriculture Guide” is an unbiased source of detailed crop-specific production recommendations. It provides information on products to manage insects, mites, diseases, weeds, algae and plant growth regulation. The guide is updated every 2 years by the floriculture faculty and staff of the six New England state universities and published by New England Floriculture Inc.
All of the guide’s chemical recommendations are presented within the framework of sustainability. It provides a practical approach to establishing a comprehensive IPM program, including detailed information on pest identification and guidelines for implementing an effective scouting program. It also includes information on instituting a biological control program. The plant growth regulator section covers which products to use and how to apply them to specific crops along with how to manage growth environmentally.
The new guide introduces a pest identification website that provides photos and descriptions of hundreds of plant problems caused by insects, mites, diseases, nutritional disorders and cultural practices.
The guide will be available for $25 to attendees at this year’s Northeast Greenhouse Conference and Expo, Nov. 3-4, in Worcester, Mass. After the conference, the guide will be available for $30 at the conference website.
