Some good news, courtesy of stargazette.com: Jamie Critelli recently opened Floral Beauty Greenhouses in Elmira, N.Y.
Critelli established the business in greenhouses formerly used by a company called Plantscape, with a few changes. When he took over the property in a lease-with-option-to-buy arrangement in April, it included a single greenhouse with 10,000 square-feet of growing space connected to a barn used to load and unload plants and supplies.
He's since added 20,000 square-feet of greenhouse space, some of which was brought on board this fall in response to the flooding that washed out wholesale growing operations in the Binghamton area. Critelli also plans to erect another 12,000-square-foot greenhouse in the spring that will be dedicated to growing vegetables.
