Natural Industries announces the release of a new biological insecticide under the brand name NoFly. With EPA registration, NoFly has been approved for use in greenhouse production for ornamental crops. The microbial insecticide helps control whiteflies, thrips and aphids at all stages of the insect life cycle. The active ingredient of NoFLY consists of spores of the entomopathogenic fungus Paecilomyces fumosoroseus strain FE 9901. This microorganism is a naturally occurring fungus geographically widespread and a common pathogen of insect pests.
As part of an IPM program, NoFly is effective with a 1 pound per acre application rate. Two to four pounds per acre of NoFly is needed for a heavy infestation.
NoFly is pending approval in California, New York and Florida. Within the next year, Natural Industries expects the label to be expanded to include food crops and outdoor agriculture production.
