OFA is establishing a scholarship fund in the memory of the late Jack Williams, a technical advisor at Ecke Ranch who died last October at the age of 54. OFA will manage the fund as part of its Scholars Program. The purpose of the program is to expose students to various facets of the floriculture industry they would not typically experience as part of their regular academic coursework.
Williams, who served Ecke Ranch for 26 years, also played an integral role in grower education at OFA. He served on the board of directors and the grower committee throughout his career.
Williams spent 15 years on the grower committee, part of which time he served as either chair or co-chair. On the grower committee, Williams was instrumental in developing new concepts and introducing new speakers to the OFA Short Course educational program. He developed a Short Course interactive session that brought together exhibitors and growers to discuss hot-topic issues. He spoke at the Short Course on numerous occasions, as well as other outreach education workshops on behalf of OFA. He was also a facilitator for many of the meetings educational sessions.
Williams wrote numerous articles for the OFA Bulletin and was a contributor to the OFA Tips book series.
Companies wishing to contribute to the scholarship fund should contact OFA.
